“Here comes the stress!”
This has probably been the most stressful week I have had since I have been here at Tech. I could have avoided the stress ahead of time, but I was being a slacker and did not stay focused. Week four at Virginia Tech was one of the longest and most tiring weeks. I stayed up late Monday and Tuesday night, because I had not completed my homework. I went to bed around one thirty both nights, and having an eight o’clock class Monday morning and having crew practice at six Tuesday morning did not help.
Sunday was not that bad. I got to sleep in late, but missed church. I said goodbye to a friend who came here to visit. I had to write a blog which is not too bad because it gives me a chance to reflect about my week. After I wrote the blog I took my friend back to Radford, came back to Virginia Tech, and then went to bed. The next morning started the stress.
Monday I got up and remembered I had to go to the Bowman Room for my Galileo class. I spent fifteen minutes figuring out how to get there. I had to print off another map because I lost the other map of the campus I had. At the Galileo class I was reminded of the Career Expo that I was required to attend either Tuesday or Wednesday. After Galileo I had some time to do some work, take a few quizzes and study for a Chemistry Test that I was not ready for. I did not utilize my time; instead I checked emails, spent time with Sarah and had lunch. When I realized I had to take a quiz for vector geometry, I went to my room and started the quiz. I finished it with just enough time to get to English. After English and Chemistry class I had to get ready for Crew practice. Crew practice starts at six and ends at eight, but I have to get ready at five and leave school by five thirty to get to Crater Lake. We usually do not leave the lake at eight so I do not get back until eight thirty. By then I have starving and grab something from DXpress, and when I am done eating it is nine o’clock. Monday I had to do some chemistry lab homework which consisted of pre-lab questions and a lab repot from the previous week’s lab. That night I also had to revise and submit my paper that I wrote for English class. It did not take too long, but by the time I got started on it, it was already one o’clock. I finally got to bed dreading my morning class.
When I woke up on Tuesday morning, at five twenty-five A.M., I was thinking about what I had to do all day, and wondering if practice was going to be hard. I had to take a quiz, do some Engineering homework, revise my resume, get ready for the Expo for Wednesday, find time to eat, and study for Chemistry. I had forgotten about practice temporarily until I was faced up against the entire east side stands of Lane Stadium. At practice we had to walk up the stairs two steps at a time with our hands behind our backs, and then we had to jog down the steps. This may not intimidate some people, but I was terrified. After the first set of stairs I knew that I would not be able to feel my legs for a long time. After about an hour of climbing stairs and running down them we finally had our team pow-wow before we were dismissed. When I got back to the room my legs felt like rubber bands and I had a day full of walking ahead of me. I still had classes to go to, and still had my “to-do list.” Somehow I managed to get my engineering homework done, got the quiz knocked out the way, I got my resume completed, and got ready for the Expo. The only thing I did not get to do was study for chemistry, which I really needed to do since I would not have any time to study the next day. Tuesday night was still another late night, but I got to bed about an hour earlier.
Wednesday morning was not as bad as Tuesday. I got to sleep in a later, but probably should not have since I had so much work to do. After my morning class I went to my dorm, got dressed for the Expo and left. I was so nervous about the Expo, but I knew once it I started I would be fine. At the Expo I talk to several different companies, and met some really nice people who are genuinely trying to help out. Unfortunately I did not get any job offers, but I made some good connections for next year. Throughout the day I struggled to get work done before classes and still never found time to study for chemistry. Chemistry was at two forty-five and I knew that I was not ready for the test, but accepted that it was my entire fault. After the test I felt like I had just been beaten. I knew I had done bad, and was dreading the time when the grades came out. I had practice again that night, but did not have to stay up late, which really helped after the past few days.
Thursday went by without any struggles or any worries about not completing something. I had a workout plan I had to do for Crew and that was the most I struggled all day. I was excited about Friday because I knew the week would almost be over.
Friday came and I was thrilled to only have one class, which is English. I usually do not like English classes, but this class is not that bad. There is not that much stress that comes with it. I disagreed with a few people at the end of our discussion, but was too excited about my day to be over to worry about them. After class Sarah and I went to Radford so I could do some laundry and get a prescription for some medicine that I need. I had gotten a cold all of a sudden Thursday night and this medicine usually takes care of any cold I start to get. My brother had the prescription because our mom gave it to him the last time we were home. When we got to his house, I found out that he had lost it, and could understand why because his room looked like a tornado went through there. I got my laundry done and my mom called the doctor to get my medicine called in. We came back to Tech where I went to bed early because of my cold.
I woke up Saturday feeling a little better and excited about the Nebraska game. I went to the game with Sarah, my roommate and another friend from Smithfield. I think the game was a good conclusion to the week. It helped relief the tension from week. I was excited to be there because it was the first Tech football game that I had been too. That night I hung out with some friends and continued to wind down.
I think last week taught me a valuable lesion. Do not procrastinate. When you procrastinate you cause yourself more stress and struggle to get things done. I almost missed a few deadlines and I did horrible on a test. I know that if I would have gotten things done sooner I would have done better on the test and not worried so much about my work. I am going to try and get my worked finished before its due and I am going to make more time to study. I knew college was going to be more difficult, but I need to stop making more difficult for myself.

This week was busy, especially for Galileans. I think from Sunday night till Wednesday night, I had a total of 10 hours of sleep, one of the nights being an all-nighter. But yeah, the game was a big relief and a better conclusion with our win. Hope you have a better year!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree on last week being the worst week at Tech, and you're completely right about the procrastination, but it's so easy! I talked to my advisor and she said this was the time when everything was easy and after this week it all gets harder! I could not imagine if every week was similar to this one! I would literally CRUMBLE!
ReplyDeleteI just realized my link on my page was wrong for your blog and therefor I probably lost some points...bummer. But the past two weeks have been stressful for me, to much work.
