In my blog last week I stated that I was going to start writing a little bit in my blog a day so I will not have to do it all at one time. That plan was an epic fail. I am sitting at my desk with three hours until the dead line and I do not have a clue what to write about. I know it will come to me I just wish I would be able to know what I am going to write about before I sit down. I think that will come in time though. It would be bad if I got writers block while I am struggle to write these one thousand words.
When we had to make the profile of someone in our class my partner, Maggie, asked me if I listened to music when I do my work. I told her no because I always end up signing and I get even more distracted from my work. Since then though, I have tried to listen to music a few times while I am doing my work, and I actually like doing my work better with music more than I like doing it without music. I am listening to Pandora Radio as I am writing this blog. I have never used it before, and I do not know how to feel about it yet. It plays some songs I do not want to listen to, but I have skipped to many so I can no longer skip other songs. I think it is weird that their listens does not allow people to skip over all the songs they want. I do like that it plays different things and not just the same artist over and over again. I think Pandora Radio would be good for a party if, for some reason, no one had music you could use it to play any genre of music you would like. While I am writing this blog I have created a few different stations and I am able to go from country, to rap, to Elton John. I enjoy jumping around the genres because I get tired easily of the same kind of music unless I know the words to what I am listening to.
For the most part I like all music, but there are a few genres that are extremely annoying to me. The heavy metal, screaming music frustrates me. I do not understand how people like someone screaming into a microphone. When people do that you cannot understand a word they are saying. At least in rap you can understand it if you are paying attention to the words. I do not like bluegrass because it has too much twang. I am not into whatever genre Brittany Spears in considered being a part of. Her music is too annoying and you can not relate to it at all. I think for music to be considered as “good” it has to be able to relate to people. If the words cannot mean anything to someone, then what is the point of the song? Have a good beat that you can dance too? I understand that not all music that you like is not going to mean something to you, but maybe there are a few songs in that genre that do mean something to you. I also understand that there are some songs that you listen to because it does have a good beat, but you can still relate to it. Maybe the tempo matches the mood you are in. I know when I am in a good mood I like listening to rap because a lot of the beats are fast and upbeat, or I will listen to country music that is upbeat.
I think that the songs that are making fun of other songs are good. I feel like that genre of music puts people in a good mood. I was at a Christian concert a few years ago and there was a band that would take secular songs and make it a Christian song. I cannot remember what their band’s name was, but they were really good.
So Sarah got a text from one of my best friends last Thursday saying, “When you get a chance away from James I need to talk to you.” I wondered what he would need to talk to her about that he could not tell me so I knew it had to be a surprise. So all day I thought about what it could be. I he text me later that night saying he needed to talk to me tomorrow. So Friday I text him and he never text me back, so I called him and he said he was driving so he could not text. I asked him what he wanted to talk about, but he just said we will talk later tonight. I said ok, I was fine with that, but as we were saying goodbye, he said, “I will see you tonight. I mean I will talk to you tonight. No! I will see you tonight we can Skype.” After I hung up I knew that he was going to be coming up to Tech to visit me and a few other people from our school. Sarah was not happy that I figured out the surprise, but she got over it after a while. So this weekend I spent my time with my friend Keith, playing tennis, going to parties and just hanging out. It was nice to see him since I had not seen him since I left to come here. He left today at one. He really liked it here so he is thinking of transferring her form Old Dominion University. He came with another one of our friends from Smithfield, Trevor, and he also wants to transfer here from Old Dominion. I really enjoyed see Keith and Trevor, and I am glad I got to spend this weekend with them. I wish they would have come on a different weekend though. I had a lot of school work I needed to get done. It will be fine though. It will just be a couple of late nights here the next few days.

This is funny. Right now I am listening to Pandora. I love the site. I have so many stations to switch from, its great.
ReplyDeleteJames! I love pandora and Last.fm which is similar to pandora, except you can probably skip as many tracks as your little heart desires so you could try that! I can literally not work without music on in the back ground. I can't stay focused without being focused on two things at once? does that make sense? I don't think so, but I think it has something to do with keeping one half of your brain occupied so it doesn't distract the other half. I am obviously not a neurology major!
ReplyDeletePandora's great. I discovered it last year and it lead me to the names of songs I liked but never knew the name of. But this year, besides the limited amount of skipping, they added a 40 hour limit per month which annoys me. But it's nice seeing old friends and hanging out.
